SAN ANTONIO — The families of Matthew Guerra and Savanah Soto are relieved after police made two arrests in the capital murder case.
19-year-old Christopher Preciado is facing several charges including capital murder. His father, 53-year-old Ramon Preciado is facing two charges related to hiding the bodies.
Just a week ago, police released a surveillance video of the two, which gave the family hope.
However, they have now learned their loved ones were killed on Dec. 21, days before they realized they were missing.
On Thursday, Gabriel Guerra, Matthew’s father, was able to visit his son’s apartment.
“I came across Fabian’s gloves and it brought back talks me and Matt had about the different sports he was going to be in so you know, this one hurts,” Gabriel said.
Fabian is Matthew and Savanah’s unborn baby boy. Savanah was a week past due when she was schedule to be induced to give birth on Dec. 23.
Gabriel said the couple had his nursery ready to go, with ultrasound photos hanging up next to the crib.
“I wish I could have seen him in the father stage of his life,” Gabriel said.
Instead, both families are finalizing funeral plans for the three.
“Nothing is going to bring my sister back,” Savanah’s brother, Jordan Corona said. “Nothing is going to fix the heartaches that we’re having to go through.”
Both families were watching online Wednesday night as the 19-year-old and 53-year-old father and son were taken away in handcuffs.
In the arrest affidavit, it states investigators used Savanah’s cell phone and surveillance video to track them down. They were brought in for questioning.
It states, Christopher admitted to police he was meeting Savanah and Matthew for a marijuana deal. Christopher claimed Matthew pointed a gun at him which is what led up to the shootings. However, detectives said his claims were inconsistent with the couple’s gunshot wounds.
The family said they were both shot behind the ear. It is still unclear where the shootings happened.
The father, Ramon, is accused of driving to the Medical Center apartment complex to help his son hide the bodies.
“My nephew Fabian his mom and his dad, they’re all gone over marijuana?,” Corona said.
Savanah’s older brother said it is almost unbearable to go through this pain again. In May of 2022, his brother, 15-year-old Ethan Soto was murdered.
“The thing I tell myself is that my little brother, he needed them more and she needed my little brother more,” Corona said. “That’s all she’d talk about how she wanted Ethan to witness her be a mom.”
Both Corona and Gabriel Guerra said they want District Attorney Joe Gonzales to seek the death penalty.
“To me there is no other option that would be considered justice, if we didn’t go for death penalty,” Gabriel said.
The District Attorney released a statement Thursday, stating it is too soon to determine if his office will seek the death penalty for Christopher Preciado. He did say, it is possible Christopher could face an additional charge of capital murder for the death of baby Fabian.
