SAWS rescues puppy that fell into sewer main

Crews used a camera to locate it and then push it out to a manhole to be rescued.

SAN ANTONIO — Workers became heroes early Thursday morning after rescuing a puppy that was trapped in the sewer main on the south side of town.

The sewer line was located in the 700 block of Brunswick near E Southcross and Pleasanton Road.

A crew from San Antonio Water Systems was able to use televising equipment to first find it and then push it to safety with a televising camera to a manhole for rescue. The tiny, shivering puppy was found about 200 feet deep into the sewer line.

Crews rescued the hapless pup using a snake camera to push her to a manhole so someone could pull her out.

She was definitely scared and soaking wet but she is in good hands now.

The adorable puppy was taken to a local veterinarian by an Animal Control Services officer to be cared for and determine if she is someone's missing pet or a stray.

She has been given the name Damsel. She remains at the ACS clinic at the moment because she was suffering from hypothermia and they were concerned she may have ingested some sewage.
