'Schoolhouse Rock' to be performed at the Magik Theatre

Schoolhouse Rock Live! is coming to the Magik Theatre for a several-week run from April 15- June 4.

SAN ANTONIO — A new show at Magik Theatre promises to inspire young, new fans as well as bring nostalgia to longtime fans.

Schoolhouse Rock Live! is coming to the Magik Theatre for a several-week run from April 15- June 4.

The Saturday morning children's programming classic is sure to get parents and kids singing along. The show is celebrating the 50th anniversary of Schoolhouse Rock. The show aired from 1973-1985, on ABC on Saturday morning. It consisted of a series of short, animated videos that combined education with entertainment.

“The production will introduce a new generation to the Schoolhouse Rock stars while taking the older audience on a trip down memory lane," Anthony Runfola, Artistic Director of the Magik Theatre, said.

The Magik Theatre will offer special performances of Schoolhouse Rock for community members in need. Below are some of the special performance dates:

  • American Sign Language Interpreted Performance | Saturday, May 6, 2:00 pm.
  • Sensory-Friendly Performance | Wednesday, May 24, 10:30 am.
  • Pay What You Wish Performances | Saturday, May 13, 2:00 pm & Saturday, June 3, 2:00 pm.

In addition to the special performances, the Magik Theatre hosts school field trips, which allows the students on those trips to see the full production, rather than just a snippet of the show.

"We are here to make theatre accessible to every family and remove any existing barrier," Magik Theatre CEO Frank Villani said.
