Former San Antonio police officer David Seaton has been sentenced to serve 15 years in prison for the 2008 car crash that killed fellow officer Robert Davis, a jury announced late Wednesday afternoon in San Antonio.
Seaton told jurors Tuesday that he regretted the death caused by his excessive speed.
Seaton was convicted of manslaughter and aggravated assault Monday.
Davis was struck by Seaton s cruiser while Davis was working on the side of the road at a traffic stop. Seaton reportedly was traveling more than 100 mph.
Another motorist was seriously injured in the crash.
Seaton told jurors a day doesn't go by that he doesn't pray for the family he hurt. But Davis' mother said it wasn't enough.
He had enough time to slow down, said Uritta Davis, the victim's mother. He didn't seem to slow down. He didn't care to slow down. He just wanted to keep speeding, she said after hearing the verdict Monday.
