SAN ANTONIO — A South Dakota father got off a plane in San Antonio, and now he's missing. James Hamling's sister Angie Stanford said this is out of the ordinary and is worried about her brother.
"I just want him back," Stanford said.
On Friday night, photos from surveillance video shows Hamling getting off a plane at the San Antonio International Airport. He was flying in to the city to help her move. Stanford was there to pick him up, as it was planned.
"There are so many unanswered questions and unknowns," she said.
Stanford said on Friday she talked to her brother when he was on the way to the airport. She said their mother was dropping him off that morning.
"He seemed fine when he left South Dakota," she said.
She said her brother has a prepaid phone and was going to buy minutes for the phone. When she got to the San Antonio airport to pick him up, she said her texts and phone calls were not going through.
"I just drove around, and around and around multiple times, when I parked I went I and searched and couldn't find him," she said.
Stanford said she stayed a bit at the airport but her brother was nowhere to be found. She went back to the airport on Saturday morning and did get photos from surveillance video.
The photos show her brother getting off the plane Friday night. She said there is also footage of him appearing to get in what looks like a cab. However, she said San Antonio Airport Police couldn't make out a name or plate number.
"I have tried calling a bunch of different taxi companies, they were unhelpful," Stanford said.
Stanford said her brother does have a history of mental illness. But said this is out of character. She is fearful because her brother doesn't know the area.
"Whatever situation is going on in his head, like I don't care, we will work through it," she said. "I just want him safe."
Hamling got in to San Antonio at around 11 p.m. on Friday night and was wearing a blue shirt, khaki pants, a cap and glasses. He has two tattoos of his boys on his forearm. He may also be carrying a blue and white or green backpack.
Stanford said police have checked local hospitals and have even called the Bexar County Medical Examiner's Office.
If you have any information regarding Hamling's whereabouts, you are asked to call SAPD at 210-207-7660.
