CANYON LAKE, Texas — A small earthquake was reported in the Canyon Lake area late Thursday morning.
According to the website database.earth, which pulls data from United States Geographical Survey, an earthquake with magnitude 2.1 on the richter scale hit 9 kilometers southeast of Canyon Lake around 11:55 a.m.
The earthquake was reportedly at a depth of 1.9978 kilometers below the Earth's surface. Officials say the quake could be felt by people in the nearby area. Other areas in close proximity include New Braunfels and Wimberley.
There are no reports of damage, however, the website does say shallow quakes generally tend to be more damaging than deeper quakes. Seismic waves from deep quakes have to travel farther to the surface, losing energy along the way. Shallow earthquakes are considered between 0 and 70 km deep
