SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP, Ohio — Don’t let the floppy ears and general cuteness of this Springfield Twp. Fire Department first responder fool you, she has a very serious and important job.
K9 Applesauce passed her first human remains detection certification on Saturday according to a post on the department’s Facebook page.
Dogs are certified by the National Search Dog Alliance.
18-month-old K9 Applesauce has been a part of the department since she was just 8 weeks old.
She joins K9 Darwin, who has been recertified for the fourth time.
The dog’s services will be called upon in a variety of situations - from house fires, to drownings, to helping to locate missing people.
