SAN ANTONIO — A local judge on Monday decided the San Antonio man accused in a deadly family violence attack will remain jailed until trial, rejecting his request for reduced bond while agreeing with the Bexar County district attorney's office that he shouldn't have the option of posting bail and being released.
Stephen Michael Clare, 50, is accused of killing his baby daughter in an April 10 attack on the north side. His other 2-year-old daughter, Rosalie Clare, was in the hospital for more than two weeks while the child's mother is also recovering from injuries.
Clare is charged with capital murder and two counts of aggravated assault, his bond previously set at $3.5 million. Last week he requested that amount be lowered while the DA pushed to keep him behind bars.
"They recognize the heinous nature of his alleged crime and underscore our commitment to justice," District Attorney Joe Gonzales said in response to the judge's decision.
A pre-hearing for Clare is scheduled for May 30.
