Student detained after cutting peer in IDEA classroom, police say

According to authorities, the cut was "superficial" and the student was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

SAN ANTONIO — A 13-year-old student was stabbed by his 14-year-old peer inside a classroom Friday morning, police say.

San Antonio police responded to IDEA Carver around 9 a.m. on Robinson Place, where authorities say a 14-year-old student got up from his seat, walked over to the victim and "cut the left side of his upper body."

The cut was "superficial" and the victim was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

According to police, the altercation was immediately stopped by the teacher and the suspect was arrested by police.

No other injuries were reported.

Police say parents were notified of the incident, and IDEA Carver was put on a HOLD alert which has since been lifted.

IDEA Public Schools said in a statement that it was "thoroughly cooperating with the police during the investigation," which remains ongoing. The detained teen is scheduled to appear in court Monday morning.
