Standoff over at west-side home after suspect surrenders to police

Police are still investigating exactly what happened.

SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio Police say a standoff with a possible shooting suspect has ended on the west-side after the man turned himself in early Wednesday.

It happened around 8:25 a.m. in the 100 block of Fordham Avenue, which is close to St. Mary's University. Police were responding to a burglary in progress, and in the course of the burglary, somebody was reportedly shot.

When officers arrived, they found a man in his early 20s with multiple gunshot wounds in the back yard of the house.

He was taken to University Hospital in unknown condition. Someone from inside the home told police that the victim was trying to break into the home and had set down his weapon. Someone else picked up the gun and shot the man a few times in his upper leg.

Police say that at least one person inside the home initially refused to come out. Officers are still trying to find the weapon that was fired.

Officers have at least three people in custody.

We reached out to officials with St. Mary's University and they sent this statement:

"SAPD is responding to an incident in a neighborhood near campus on Fordham Avenue but across Camino Santa Maria.
Avoid the area until an All-Clear is given."

This is a developing story.
