Suspect facing charges after escaping from Bexar County Jail, SAPD says

Police said the 25-year-old suspect was located in the surrounding area and detained without incident.

SAN ANTONIO — The San Antonio Police Department said a man escaped from police custody while officers transported suspects from the Magistrate to the Bexar County Jail just west of downtown Friday morning.

Police said the officer arrived at the jail on the 200 block of North Comal Street in the jail sally port. The 25-year-old suspect hid behind a parked vehicle and ran out the sally port doors when they opened for another vehicle, according to police.

The suspect was located nearby and detained without incident. Police said he now faces a third degree felony charge of escaping custody/correctional facility.

SAPD says its internal affairs will conduct an internal investigation for any possible procedural violations.
