Suspected drunk driver kills man sleeping under bridge

A suspected drunk driver crushes man sleeping under a bridge officials said.

LEON VALLEY -- A suspected drunk driver is facing charges of intoxication manslaughter after emergency officials say he killed a man under a bridge.

Alex James Deleon, 21, is reportedly the suspect in this case. He is currently being treated at University Hospital for serious injuries.

Leon Valley Fire Chief Luis Valdez says emergency crews were dispatched to the Bandera Rd and NW Loop 410 just before 3 a.m. for reports of a car on top of man. They arrived to find the driver of the vehicle with injuries. The victim was pinned under the vehicle against the wall of the underpass.

Investigators believe Deleon is accused of losing control of his vehicle going into the eastbound turnaround, running over the victim who was sleeping under the bridge and crushing the man against the wall.

Valdez said the victim was dead when they arrived.

Leon Valley's Police Chief was unavailable for comment on the investigation.

The victim's identity is not known.

Joe Casanova said he's the victim's friend. According to Casanova, the victim was working on getting identification because of prospective employment. He called the man "Josh" but isn't sure if that's his actual name.
