SAN ANTONIO — In a Facebook post Saturday, the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office said two suspects who have been given the name “sticky bandits” were arrested and are now facing a long list of charges following a series of crimes on Saturday.
BCSO said the pursuit of the bandits began when a deputy observed a red Toyota Tacoma committing multiple traffic violations. When the deputy attempted to make a traffic stop, the sheriff’s office says the suspects sped off, hitting another vehicle in the process.
The abandoned truck was located at a nearby smoke shop where deputies discovered it was registered stolen, according to BCSO.
The two suspects were spotted by witnesses and surveillance video and it wasn’t long before deputies caught up to them.
The sheriff’s office said the two were detained and a black backpack was discovered by deputies inside a nearby garbage can containing a gun, crystal meth and cannabis.
“Moments before being scooped up, they thought they could be slick by getting rid of the stash, but weren’t slick enough!,” the BCSO post reads.
BCSO said that upon questioning from deputies, the female suspect, 33-year-old Mary Helen Lilly— claimed the male suspect, 29-year-old Mason Cyrus Nabers, was driving the stolen truck and gave her the drugs and gun.
Mason was seemingly under the influence during his questioning, BCSO said, describing him as being “on cloud 9.”
“But wait there’s even more!” BCSO continues. Deputies found that the two suspects were also connected to a mail theft earlier in the day, allegedly stealing a box full of packages from a mail carrier in the same stolen truck.
BCSO also said the suspects were found to have several active felony warrants.
They were arrested and taken to the Bexar County Jail. They face a list of new charges including possession of a controlled substance and evading arrest.
