12-year-old boy drowns while swimming with group in the Guadalupe River

A group of boys with a church group were reportedly swimming in the river when the 12-year-old boy went under and never resurfaced.

GUADALUPE COUNTY, Texas — A 12-year-old boy is dead after drowning in the Guadalupe River.

Around 9:45 a.m. on Monday, Seguin officials responded to the 400 block of River Road after receiving reports of a drowning in progress.

According to authorities, a group of boys with a church group who were staying in a vacation rental were swimming in the river when a 12-year-old boy went under and never resurfaced.

Seguin FD was assisted by Game Wardens, Guadalupe County Sheriff's Office and Star Flight from Austin scanned the river from the air. 

At 1:15 p.m., a dive team from New Braunfels recovered the boy's body.
