Tanker truck accident causes smelly mess in east Bexar County

The truck was carrying liquid sulfur, which isn't hazardous. Workers were waiting to offload the remaining liquid before removing the crashed tanker.

SAN ANTONIO — A tanker truck carrying liquid sulfur was pierced in a traffic accident, causing it to spill up to 10 gallons on the roadway Thursday morning, the Bexar County Sheriff's Office said.

The substance is not hazardous, but it does have a strong odor.

The truck driver was turning westbound in a construction zone at I-10 and FM 1518 east of San Antonio but took the turn too sharply, causing the vehicle to roll up on concrete barrier, which raised the tires up off the ground.

Another tanker truck was going to the location Thursday morning to offload the remaining liquid from the crashed truck before an effort would be made to remove the truck from the concrete barrier.
