Teen took stepfather's car, went for joyride with younger sister, police say

The teen driver ended up crashing the vehicle, sending the pair to the hospital for their injuries.

SAN ANTONIO — A teen who took his stepfather's car and went for a ride with his younger sister ended up crashing it, injuring both of them, according to police.

Castle Hills Police spotted a vehicle speeding on West Avenue around 12:50 a.m. early Thursday, and turned around and began to follow the vehicle. Officers say the car was going over 90 mph on N.W. Military Highway and ended up crashing into a wall.

Police found the driver, a 15-year-old boy, on the floor board of the car under the steering wheel with two broken arms. The front seat passenger, his 13-year-old sister, was in the front seat. Initially the officers thought the passenger was the driver until they broke through the windows and saw the teenage boy on the floor. At first glance, it appeared to be a fatal accident.

But the teen survived and had two broken arms. He was taken to University Hospital in critical condition.

His younger sister was also taken to University Hospital in serious condition. No word on what her injuries were.

Police notified the family and found out that the stepfather had no idea the pair of teens had taken his car.

No word on whether any charges will be filed against the teen driver.

This is a developing story.
