SAN ANTONIO — A major move for the 2024 Tejano Music Fan Fair. For more than 40 years, the free four-day event has been at the Historic Market Square.
However, it won't be there this year. It will be held at Hemisfair.
Frank Salazar and Robert Arellano with the Tejano Music Awards and Texas Talent Musicians Association said construction around Market Square had them looking elsewhere.
"We were told the construction would be complete at the end of February, which puts our event at risk," Salazar said.
"It is scary, exciting," Arellano said.
They said around 100,000 Tejano fans pack the event.
"This venue here is very nice, beautiful," Salazar said. "Plenty of room and still in downtown San Antonio."
Salazar said there will be four stages this year, which is one less from last year.
There will still be drinks and food. They said there is plenty of parking around the area, but tell people to plan ahead.
"Not much is going to change on the entertainment side, just more on the venue," Salazar said. "I think people are going to see a big difference and I think they are going to like it."
The dates for Fan Fair are March 14, 15, 16 and 17. There will be bands from all over the nation and some of the performers locked in are Ricardo Castillon and Sunny Sauceda.
In terms of going back to Fan Fair in 2025, the organizers said they will wait and see how this year goes.
"Everybody is asking, are you all coming back, what is going to happen," Arellano said. "I guess it is something we will answer after it is over."
