DALLAS — Let's be honest: The standard Texas license plate design leaves a bit to be desired. Black and white, a single star adorning the top left corner. Gone are the days of space shuttles, lone riders, oil derricks and blue and red vistas.
But Texas does give drivers the option to upgrade to a custom plate of their choice. And with 2024 nearly over, we're getting a look at which plate designs have been the most popular.
My Plates, the company behind the specialty plate designs, released its top category winners on Wednesday.
No surprise here, but the Dallas Cowboys were the top sports plate. The closer race was likely at the college level, where Texas A&M took home the top plate there. We're just assuming the University of Texas was No. 2 in the category.
And in perhaps the biggest critique of the state's standard white plate design, the "Classic Black" design was the top overall specialty plate sold in Texas this year.
