BOERNE, Texas — The Cibolo Center for Conservation is a gem, hidden in the wide open. Hardly a quarter of a mile off Highway 46 the center is 160 acres of Texas located in Boerne.
The center has added a few administrative and educational buildings, roughly 3 miles of running paths, a walkway over the marsh and a few benches to sit and take it all in.
"There’s nothing more important than making sure that we all have an opportunity to do this…with our kids", says the center's Brian Davenport.
He's been coming here since he was a kid himself. Now, Davenport says he brings his four boys here all the time as he says it is an amazing place to learn about the Texas environment.
Davenport says "We’ve got five different ecological systems here" (marshland, prairie, the woodland, the creek & riparian zone).
Almost every day there are groups of kids on school field trips, people walking their dogs along the paths or maybe just someone trying to escape the craziness of their day.
The center also hosts kids camps every summer. It's an opportunity for them to unplug from the electronic world, get out in nature and play. There is so much to discover and learn, then head down to the creek, look at the fish, or splash around, then climb on rock ledges.
If you've not been, I strongly recommend you take a few hours and explore. You might find as I and my youngest son did, your watch seems to jump into hyper-speed, and the hours fly by as you absorb all the nature you can absorb. If you're interested in checking it out or looking into one of the summer kids camps go to their website.
