SAN ANTONIO — A moderate earthquake measuring in at 3.7 on the Richter scale hit the Pleasanton area on Thursday, with tremors felt as far away as Bandera and Spring Branch, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
The quake struck at 12:03 p.m., the agency said, with the epicenter estimated to be about 11 miles outside Pleasanton. It had an estimated depth of 1.9 miles. Earthquakes of this size typically only cause minor damage, and there were no immediate reports of such impacts.
Thursday's quake is the latest of nearly 30 reported in South Texas over the last month, eight of those featuring epicenters in the Pleasanton area. It's also the strongest earthquake reported in Texas over that span, and tied for the 19th-strongest in the state since the start of 2024.
Some in the region took to the internet to share about the tremors.
"I thought somebody had slammed a food hard but without the bang!!" Earl McCracken wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
In all, the USGS reports there has been nearly 500 earthquakes in the San Antonio area this year. Most of those were minor, with all but 21 coming in at under 3.0 on the Richter scale.
