'I will never give up' | Family speaks out after arrest is made in connection to the suspicious death of a mother in Schertz

Schertz police say a San Antonio man was arrested in connection to the case.

SCHERTZ, Texas — Schertz Police have made an arrest in the case where a mother was found dead inside her apartment. In May 2023, Lisa Sipes died under what police say were suspicious circumstances.

Just this week, police arrested a San Antonio man in connection to the case.

Amy Sipes said this whole year has been difficult for the family. She says she misses her sister every single day.

"There is no closure," Amy said. "I still text her phone every day. I know she is not going to respond. But, it is just to let her know what is going on. I send pictures. It is just my way of coping right now."

On May 26, 2023 police said the mother of two was found dead at her Schertz apartment located in the 500 block of FM 3009. At the time, the family asked police to do a welfare check after Lisa wasn't responding to calls or text messages. Schertz Police didn't say how she died, but only said Lisa's death occurred under suspicious circumstances.

"It was just shocking," Amy said. "I think we didn't understand. It just didn't set."

Amy tells KENS 5 she believes her sister was murdered.

"I know the arrest for the murder of my sister needs to happen," she said.

And now more than a year later, detectives have arrested 61-year-old Aaron James Declouette of San Antonio. Investigators charged him in connection to the case for tampering with or fabricating physical evidence. However, investigators did not reveal much about the arrest.

"In regards to the arrest, I feel no way about the arrest," Amy said. "I will feel a way when someone is arrested for the murder of Lisa."

Amy said her sister was a loving mother who loved to cook. She also was a nurse in the Air Force.

"She was just an amazing person that unfortunately didn't get to finish to be as amazing as she is," Amy said.

Amy made one thing clear, she will not be giving up on her sister's case.

"We have a lot of faith in God," she said. "I will not stop fighting for her justice, that's just something I will never give up on."

Schertz Police wouldn't say if more arrests are possible in the case. As for Declouette, he has since bonded out of jail.
