EAGLE PASS, Texas — Change is coming and planning is underway, that's the message delivered by Governor Greg Abbott, and other dignitaries including U.S. incoming Border Czar, Tom Homan.
Tuesday afternoon, they served up a warm meal and gratitude to Texas National Guard Troops, and Texas Department of Public Safety Troopers stationed in Eagle Pass.
Homan didn't hold back as he spoke to troops and troopers at the event.
“For the last 4 years I wake up every morning pissed off about what this administration has done to our most secure border in our lifetime," Homan said.
Homan started by praising President Trump for his actions securing the border during his last administration. Homan, a former border patrol agent and head of Immigration and Customer Enforcement, is set to assume his role in January, but Abbott says change is already afoot.
“It’s something that formally occurs on January 20th, but has already begun actions, planning, preparations, schematics, everything that needs to be done is being done," Abbott said.
Homan praised the work Governor Abbott has done with Shelby Park, and is impressed by what he called, unprecedent success.
“This is a model that we can take across the country, we’re going to help governor Abbott finish the job he started," Homan said.
Homan also spoke about mass deportation, citing 9 out of 10 asylum seekers will end up with an order removal by a federal judge, and says they have to be removed.
“Let me be clean, there is going to be a mass deportation, because we just finished a mass illegal immigration crisis on the border," Homan said.
Both Abbott and Homan praised troops and troopers for their work and sacrifice, protecting the border.
“Having you available to serve the state of Texas and the United States of America, is essential for Texas and our country to remain sovereign, free, and safe," Abbott said.
Homan says he doesn't want their to be any gaps, when he assumes his role as U.S. Border Czar.
“Were not waiting till January. Were already talking, were already planning, were going to put a plan in place and secure this nation at the highest level that it’s ever seen, we’re going to finish Trumps work," Homan said.
Homan ended his speech to troops by saying, game on, it's time to get this done.
