PEARSALL, Texas — An alleged gunman was taken into custody following an eight-hour standoff in Pearsall, according to the Pearsall Police Department.
Investigators say that 56-year-old Juan Nicanor Garcia was heavily intoxicated and fired several shots into his ex's home with a shotgun around 5 am Monday. One man inside the home was struck in the lower torso and back. He is recovering at the hospital.
Police say that a number of domestic violence issues have occurred at the home in the past. Pearsall Police Chief Pedro Salinas told KENS 5 that because of a no-trespassing order against Garcia, they knew his identity and location and headed to his home, where they found him barricaded.
DPS officers were called to the scene to assist with the standoff, which lasted through 1 pm. Relatives were also on-scene, pleading with Garcia to put down his weapon and end the standoff peacefully.
Garcia finally stepped out of his home, but slipped and fell onto the wet ground. That's when officers moved in and took Garcia into custody.
Garcia is expected to be charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Felon in Possession of a Firearm, according to police.
