TEXAS, USA — Texas is continuing to keep razor wire up along the U.S.-Mexico border despite a Supreme Court ruling Monday allowing Border Patrol agents to cut the wire down.
On Tuesday, CBS immigration and politics reporter Camilo Montoya-Galvez captured video of Texas National Guard soldiers putting up more razor wire near Eagle Pass.
“It (the ruling) doesn’t change operations for DPS National Guard," DPS Lt. Chris Olivares said. "We will still add more infrastructure. That decision does not say we have to remove barriers. In fact, we are going to add more barriers."
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott echoed that message, saying the National Guard will continue to hold the line in Eagle Pass, and Texas will not back down from the efforts to secure the border.
In October, Texas sued the federal government after Border Patrol agents cut some of the wire strung along the Rio Grande, arguing the Department of Homeland Security destroyed the state’s property and interfered in Texas’ border security efforts.
The White House welcomed the Supreme Court's decision, saying the wire simply makes it harder and more dangerous for frontline personnel to do their jobs.
