SAN ANTONIO -- The big reveal happened tonight-- the public got its first look at the new design of a San Antonio landmark.

It was the center piece for the 1968 World Fair, and for the first time in more than 20 years, Hemisfair Park is getting a major makeover.

San Antonio got a first look at renderings of one of three parks which will eventually fill the 15-acre site.

The main park on the northwest side of Hemisfair will be called "Civic Park", and the main feature will be a 'Great Lawn' which will be able to host more than 10,000 people for events.

Architects said the goal is to create an urban district featuring both residential and retail space for local business.

"Hemisfair is really all about bringing communities and neighborhoods together and really bring san antonio into one place where we can share celebrations together and share culture together and really run into people from around town," said Drew Hicks, Communications Manager at Hemisfair Park Area Redevelopment Corporation.

Construction on 'Civic Park' will begin in early 2015.

The project should be done completed in 2018.
