The Velveteen Rabbit debuts at the Magik Theatre for the holiday season

The story follows a young child whose love for his stuffed velveteen rabbit he receives at Christmas brings the toy to life with nursery magic.

SAN ANTONIO — The Magik Theatre is once again bringing the beloved children's classic the Velveteen Rabbit to life on stage this holiday season.

The story follows a young child whose love for his stuffed velveteen rabbit he receives at Christmas brings the toy to life with nursery magic.

The show runs November 18 to December 24 at the Magik Theatre in downtown San Antonio.

The Velveteen Rabbit is a great way for all young families to begin a holiday tradition of going to the theatre by seeing a production created just for them,” says Artistic Director Anthony Runfola. 

This year brings whole new cast together, with Clarissa Cortez playing the role of "the child", originally written in the book as "the boy."

Some special events for the Velveteen Rabbit include a Sneak Peek Saturday, November 4, 10:30 - 11:30 a.m. Guests will have the chance to interact with cast and crew members in an intimate q&a session. There will also be a free Opening Night in the Park party, which is a family-friendly fiesta at Hemisfair before opening night. That takes place Saturday, November 18, 4:30 pm. The show is at 6:00 p.m.

Other special performances include:

  • American Sign Language Interpreted Performance | Saturday, December 16, 2 p.m.
  • Sensory-Friendly Performance | Saturday, December 2, 10:00 a.m..
  • Pay What You Wish Performance | Sunday, December  3, 3:00 p.m.
