SAN ANTONIO — The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has issued a traffic advisory for the upcoming weekend.

The east and westbound Interstate 10 lanes at Loop 1604 will shut down Friday evening as construction continues on a yearslong expansion project. This will force those traveling along Interstate 10 through the interchange onto frontage roads before re-entering the highway, so drivers are encouraged to plan ahead.

Those hoping to hop onto I-10 from Loop 1604, meanwhile, will have to take a different exit or the U-turn at La Cantera Parkway.

The closure will last from 9 p.m. Friday, June 14 until 5 a.m. Monday, June 17.

TxDOT says the main lanes of Loop 1604 will remain open as well as access to businesses around the interchange.

This weekend's closure will allow crews to continue construction of the flyover ramps at the interchange as part of the second segment of the Loop 1604 North Expansion project. The project, which TxDOT says is aimed at improving mobility and reducing congestion along the highway, "brings $1.4 billion of transportation investments." When all is said and done, the highway will be 10 lanes across on the north side.

Local law enforcement will direct traffic through the intersections during this time. All construction lane closures are weather permitting and subject to change.
