Two people injured after being attacked by dog on south side, SAFD says

Fire department officials said a woman and her boyfriend were walking their small dog when they were attacked by a larger dog.

SAN ANTONIO — Officials are investigating after two people were bit by a dog on the south side of San Antonio Tuesday morning.

Officers were called out to the 1100 block of March Avenue, near the intersection with Roosevelt Avenue, around 9:50 a.m.

Fire department officials said a woman and her boyfriend were walking their small dog when they were attacked by a larger dog.

The woman was taken to SAMMC with deep bite wounds on her leg, officials said. Her boyfriend walked into a fire station, where he was evaluated for injuries on his arm and leg.

Crews at the scene saw Animal Care Services take the dog into custody. No word yet on if the owner is facing charges.

Officials said the dog owners are facing a charge of attack by dog, which is a third degree felony.

Animal Care Services said so far this fiscal year of 2024, there have been 19 dog dangerous dog reports. That is compared to fiscal year 2023 when their were 22 dangerous dog reports. But, the FY 2024 city of San Antonio budget did allocate more staff and resources toward investigating dangerous animal report.
