Three people killed after shooting causes car crash, police say

The passenger in the car died from a gunshot and a man in the ditch was pinned under the vehicle and killed instantly. A third man died at the hospital.

SAN ANTONIO — Three people are dead after a car crashes into a ditch during a shooting on the west side late Tuesday night, police say. Officers say the shooter drove off from the scene and now there is search to find them.

San Antonio Police were called out to the intersection of West Martin Street at Northwest 24th Street around 11:15 p.m. for reports of a shooting and car accident.

When officers arrived at the location, they found a car in the ditch with a 37-year-old homeless man pinned underneath and a woman injured. The vehicle had several bullet holes on both sides of it. The 27-year-old passenger inside the car, identified as Ariel Martinez, had been fatally shot and the car's 31-year-old driver, identified as Jonathan David Medrano, had to be pulled from the car. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

Police say the driver and his passenger were shot and that caused their car to go off the road down into a ditch. Two other people were sitting in the ditch at the time and were hit by the victim’s vehicle. Police say a man was pinned and killed instantly, while the woman he was with was injured but survived.

Luc Juarez setup a makeshift memorial for the homeless man many knew as "Ro Ro."

“When I found out it really, really really gave me a big pain in my heart," Juarez said. “It needs to be known that he was well known out here. He had a big heart.”

Police are still looking for the shooter in this case. SAPD did not provide a description of the shooter.

The identity of the third victim has not been released.
