Two people taken to hospital after gas leak in their Alamo Heights condo

Officials say there was a leak in a gas furnace in the building.

SAN ANTONIO — A gas leak in a furnace at their condominium sent two people to the hospital early Monday morning.

San Antonio firefighters responded to the Cherbourg Square condos in Alamo Heights, right next to Howard Elementary School, around 2:45 a.m. for reports of the smell of gas.

When firefighters arrived, they found a gas leak in the 5-unit building, with the meter registering at over 600. Two people were taken to the hospital after breathing in the fumes.

All units were evacuated as a precaution. Firefighters shut down the gas to the building. All of the residents displaced have somewhere to go, according to officials.

They determined the leak was caused by a furnace. CPS Energy was called out to take care of the situation.

Officials remind you that if you notice a gas leak in your house, open the windows and doors and use a fan on the outside blowing fresh air into the house. Call 311 for smoke and possibly CO2 alarms if needed.

This is a developing story.
