Two pets rescued from fire on west side, electrical panel may be to blame, SAFD says

One minor was evaluated and treated for smoke inhalation at the scene.

SAN ANTONIO — Firefighters rescued two pets from a fire that may have started in an electrical panel in a home, forcing a family out into the cold.

San Antonio firefighters responded to the 100 block of Springvale Drive near Highway 90 around 9:15 p.m. Monday for reports of a single-story home on fire.

When firefighters arrived, they were met with heavy smoke coming from the house. When they entered the home, they had to make their way through storage materials and debris before being able to extinguish the flames.

Officials say that one child was in the home when the fire broke out, but all of the others were outside. One minor was evaluated and treated for smoke inhalation at the scene, according to SAFD.

Firefighters say they rescued two pets, and one of them was given oxygen at the scene. One cat remains unaccounted for, according to the family.

The battalion chief suspects the fire may have started from an electrical panel inside the home.

The damages are estimated to be around $50,000, with two rooms in the home suffering major damage.

No other injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

This is a developing story.
