BOISE, Idaho — According to Boise Fire, two structures avoided significant damage Friday, Dec. 23 due to working smoking alarms and sprinklers.
"We are grateful that both of the families at these residents were unharmed, and their fire protection systems saved their Christmas," Boise Fire posted on social media.
The first fire happened around 2:45 p.m. at S. Silverwood Pl.
"First arriving units found a small exterior fire running up the side of the house that was largely extinguished by nearby bystanders. Fire crews quickly extinguished the remaining fire before it could extend up into the attic. Smoke alarms first alerted the residents, which allowed them time to safely evacuate, and work to extinguish fire. There were no reported injuries. The cause of the fire is under investigation, but initial evidence indicates it was caused by a battery powered tool and battery pack," the post stated.
The second fire occurred at 3:09 p.m., on the third story of an apartment building located on W. Hale St. Boise Fire said when they arrived the sprinkler system had controlled most of the fire and then crews put out the remaining flames.
There were no injuries at the second fire either. Boise Fire said the cause will be investigated but preliminary evidence shows it may have been caused by a battery powered mini refrigerator.
