SAN ANTONIO — Two women were rescued by firefighters after an early morning fire sparked in their northwest-side home.

The San Antonio Fire Department responded to the 14000 block of Cedar Mill around 5:17 a.m. on Friday for reports of a house fire.

When officials arrived on scene, they found heavy flames coming from the second floor of the home, and learned a woman was trapped up there.

Firefighters worked to rescue that woman and the woman's mother, who had to be escorted out of the first floor of the home.

Officials on the scene said the fire likely started from somewhere in the back of the home and said that because it is a hoarder house, it made it more difficult to put out the flames.

Captain Ulysses Rodriguez confirmed that at least one wall collapsed in the back of the home. The women were taken to the hospital for treatment, but are expected to be Okay.

Investigators are working to figure out how this all started. No word on the dollar amount of damages caused by the blaze.

This is a developing story.
