TxDOT is cutting back on some closures for the summer

They want to minimize traffic impacts on I-10 and Loop 1604.

SAN ANTONIO — Relief is on the way for drivers at the Interstate 10 and Loop 1604 interchange because the Texas Department of Transportation is now cutting back on some major highway closures this summer.

There will be several weekends where all lanes will be open.

They want to minimize traffic impacts on I-10 and Loop 1604. And for six weekends, we will see little to no closures at the interchange.

It’s quite a project and shows the progess they have made recently. Crews have been busy constructing flyover ramps at the intersection.

Tx-DOT says half of the work is complete with 75 beams in place, and the first ramp is expected to open later this year.

This work has also been a headache, no doubt. So they want to make it easier on drivers and those businesses that have been affected.

Here are the upcoming changes:

  • There will be three weekends with no closures, including July 4-8, August 9-12, and August 30-September 2.
  • There will be another three weekends with minor closures.
  • And then four weekends with major closures,  the first one is this weekend.

Tx-DOT says even with these changes they can still stay on track with their construction schedule.

Of course, weather permitting.
