Tyler residents share thoughts on Catholic priests blessing same-sex relationships

Tyler area residents have mixed views on the Vatican's announcement Dec. 18 that Pope Francis approved letting Catholic priests bless same-sex couples.

TYLER, Texas — Tyler area residents have mixed views on the Vatican's announcement Dec. 18 that Pope Francis approved letting Catholic priests bless same-sex couples.

Lindale resident Jennifer Sanders said this announcement is positive for the Catholic church.

"As a Christian and Catholic, a blessing from the Pope is a huge deal. Church hurt is a real issue within the community," Sander said. "A church is for sinners. It's not meant for saints. It's a place of healing for everyone, and everyone should be accepted and loved."
