Family of Maite Rodriguez to hold Adopt-A-Beach cleanup in Corpus Christi

Those who attend the beach cleanup are asked to wear the color green to symbolize Maite’s love for the environment. The 10-year-old wanted to be a marine biologist.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The family of Maite Rodriguez has announced an upcoming Adopt-A-Beach cleanup event set to take place on North Padre Bali Park on Saturday, Sept. 28 from 8:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

Volunteers are invited to work alongside the 10-year-old's family to restore the coastline while wearing green to show their support for their daughter. Shirts will be available on-site, sold by her family, with all proceeds going to the Maite Yuleana Rodriguez Endowed Scholarship at TAMU-CC.

Rodriguez' life tragically came to an end on May 24 at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas. Her family says that she was deeply passionate for marine and environmental conservation and even planned to attend Texas A&M-Corpus Christi when she was older.

The family has partnered with Maya's Love, a San Antonio organization that provides support to underprivileged communities through education and mental health resources, to pay tribute to their daughter through the beach cleanup initiative.

A representative from Mayor Guajardo's office will present a proclamation in the 10-year-old's memory.

Organizers said the event will serve as an opportunity to support the Uvalde community as our communities continue healing together.
