Vacant house fire knocks down live power line on southeast side

No one was currently living in the home but fire officials said the house was being redone after it caught fire just a year ago.

SAN ANTONIO — A vacant home on the southeast side of San Antonio caught fire Sunday night.

19 fire units responded to the 600 block of Channing Avenue around 6:30 p.m. after receiving reports of several structures on fire.

When fire officials arrived, they said only one home was in flames and quickly began working to put it out.

No one was currently living in the home but officials said the house was being redone after it caught fire just a year ago.

Officials said the house was completely open in the back and gutted all the way through due to the fire. They also said because of the heat, a live power line had fallen down but they were able to get it back up quickly and restore power.

No one was reportedly injured, nor was their significant damage to any of the surrounding homes.

No word yet on what started the fire but officials said it seems to be accidental and there should be a full report from investigators by Monday morning.
