Low-cost airline offering new option between San Antonio and Guadalajara

Mexico's budget airline, Viva Aerobus, is offering a sixth nonstop destination out of San Antonio beginning Monday.

SAN ANTONIO — A low-cost airline is offering new routes between the San Antonio International Airport and Guadalajara.

Mexico's budget airline, Viva Aerobus, is offering a sixth nonstop destination out of San Antonio beginning Monday. The airline already runs nonstop flights Leon/Guanajuato, Mexico City, Monterrey, Queretaro and Torreon (seasonally) from San Antonio.

The new route will run four times a week. Here's Viva's schedule for the new flights to Guadalajara International Airport (GDL).

  • Departs SAT at 9:20 a.m. and arrives at GDL at 11:30 a.m.
  • Departs GDL at 6:00 a.m. and arrives at SAT at 8:10 a.m.

Volaris was the only other airline that currently flies between San Antonio and Guadalajara.

Viva Aerobus' CEO Juan Carlos Zuazua says the company is putting a huge focus with on the Guadalajara market with the new route to San Antonio as well as other routes to U.S. cities.

"Guadalajara is another key Viva base. The four new routes to the USA will strengthen the region's international connectivity. We see great potential in the Guadalajara market. In fact, we have a large list of domestic and international routes we could launch from Guadalajara and other large airports in the western part of Mexico," Zuazua said.

The airline also said it has increased service to Monterrey, which started last month. That service is currently offered twice daily, but the carrier will add a third daily frequency on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays.

Tickets for Guadalajara and the full flight schedule are on sale now on Viva's website.
