Off-duty Webb County deputy hit while working construction traffic in SA, according to authorities

Police say a Dodge Charger drove between barrels and hit her truck she was standing in front of at the time, causing the truck to hit her.

SAN ANTONIO — A Webb County deputy was recovering in the hospital Friday night after being hit while working construction, authorities say.

The off-duty deputy was working construction traffic in the 18100 block of Blanco Road Friday night around 9:56 p.m.

The deputy's truck was parked at a closed intersection on Blanco Road and North Loop 1604 W access road for traffic control.

Police say a Dodge Charger was driving southbound on 18100 Blanco Rd. when they hit the gas at the green light. Police say he was looking down on their phone and didn't see the traffic cone in front of him, causing him to hit the truck. The deputy was standing next to the truck was hit and knocked down.

She was taken to the hospital in stable condition, according to police.

It's unclear if the driver faces any charges or if they were under the influence of any kind.
