What San Antonians should know as they hit the roads this holiday

Now, the end of year travel period will last though Jan. 1. AAA anticipates rescuing 46,000 stranded drivers.

SAN ANTONIO — Getting behind the wheel this Christmas?

AAA is predicting nearly 104 million will hit the road this year. That's a lot of drivers so plan for congestion on your phone.

AAA says, there will be several days of potentially bad traffic. However, Dec. 23 will be the most congested day on the road.

The best times to drive will be before lunchtime or after 7 p.m.. If you hit the road after dark, just be careful there tends to be low visibility and night driving glare.

Now, the end of year travel period will last though Jan. 1. AAA anticipates rescuing 46,000 stranded drivers.

Here are the best ways to avoid being stranded:

  • Top off fuel levels.
  • Check headlights/tail-lights.
  • Check turn signals, tire tread and inflation.

Another important tip is to keep an emergency kit handy. This can take many shapes and forms but you're going to be better off with a blanket, food and water while you wait.
