WHITEHOUSE, Texas — Whitehouse native and Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is one of Time100's most influential people of 2024.
On Tuesday, Time Magazine revealed the cover of the Time 100's April 29 issue with Mahomes' portrait. Time announced the multiple Super Bowl winner is their second 2024 Time 100 cover star.
In the article, the news magazine said he talks about his latest Super Bowl-winning season, his place in the GOAT (greatest of all time) conversation and his team's most famous fan -- Taylor Swift.
The Chiefs on Twitter said, "Changing the game. Patrick Mahomes has been named one of @TIME’s Most Influential People of 2024."
Regarding the GOAT status, Mahomes told Time he's “nowhere near” it right now.
“I’ve had a great run. I think I’ve done a great job so far...That’s something I’ll talk about when I’m done playing. Then people can make those decisions," he said in the article.
The honor also features a tribute to Mahomes from Major League Baseball World Series champion Alex "A-Rod" Rodriguez. The baseball athlete said that Mahomes has always had the "heart of a champion" and he remembers Mahomes coming to practice with his father.
"I distinctly remember giving him the worst advice ever. 'Don’t play football. The money’s in baseball.' I’m happy to be wrong and glad he didn’t listen! Patrick has transcended the game of football to become one of the most respected athletes of all time, both on and off the field," Rodriguez said. "His insatiable desire to win is outdone only by his passion to give back and make the world around him better. Patrick’s legacy will live on far beyond his playing days. And—as evidenced by his back-to-back Super Bowl wins—he’s not done yet!"
