IRVING, Texas — Bryan Alexis Godoy was identified as one of the two Chick-fil-A workers killed Wednesday in Irving.
His widow spoke exclusively with WFAA from Guatemala, where she lives with their four children.
“He was an excellent father," Heydy de Godoy told WFAA in Spanish over Zoom.
Heydy said their 5-year-old daughter keeps asking her to call her dad. “And I don’t know how to tell her that he won't ever call again,” she cried.
“I tell her, he worked all day. And she says, 'Mom it’s late and Dad still hasn’t called.'”
Bryan, Heydy said, came to the States to build them a better life. He was hardworking and humble. He sent home every check and called every night.
“I grab my phone and I'm still waiting for another call from him,” she cried. “I see his phone number, his last call, and I text him, 'Bryan call me.' Even though I know he won't call anymore.”
Heydy asked that everyone remember her husband for who he was, not how he died.
As a goofy guy with a contagious smile, a respectful, responsible man who loved God, and a dad who worked at a Chick-fil-A more than a thousand miles away from his babies to give them the best possible future.
“I shouted, God, why? Why did this happen? I depended on him. Now what will I do?”
Police have still not revealed a motive for the shooting. Heydy said she can't imagine why anyone would want to hurt her husband.
“I don’t know why he did it,” she cried. “But he didn’t know what Bryan would leave behind. His four kids and me."
The family created this GoFundMe to help raise funds for funeral costs.
