SAN ANTONIO — A hearing is set for Thursday for a woman suspected of killing a beloved teacher in a drunk driving crash back in February.
Giovanna Blangiardo is accused of driving drunk and crashing head on into Whitney Weddel back on Feb. 8. Weddel was a beloved former teacher with East Central ISD.
Blangiardo was charged with intoxication manslaughter and released on bond and placed under house arrest. She is also subject to drug and alcohol testing as terms of the house arrest.
According to the victim's mother, the prosecutor in the case says the suspect now wants leniency. Blangiardo wants the bond conditions to be modified to be able to leave her home, something she is expected to ask for in court Thursday.
Meanwhile, a petition was started by Weddel's friends and family in support of not making any changes to the bond conditions. One of her friends spoke to KENS 5 back and May, saying the request doesn't sit well with her.
"The nerve of asking for leniency, because my friend doesn't get to ask for leniency to have her life back," said Jenny Garcia, Whitney Weddel's friend.
Garcia says she created a petition on Change.org to be a voice for Whitney.
"I know she would do it for me if the shoe was on the other foot," said Garcia.

The hearing for Blangiardo is set for 1:30 p.m. Thursday in the 144th District Court.
