Armed carjackers shoot young woman leaving for work

SAPD say shots hit the woman, her car, another car and the family home.

SAN ANTONIO — It's the kind of attack almost everyone dreads the most: Armed, masked gunmen appearing in the dark with violence in mind.

But it's a nightmare that became a reality for a young woman in east San Antonio as she left for work at a neighborhood restaurant before daylight Friday morning.

The woman told police the attack came suddenly, as she was pulling out of her driveway.

She said two men jumped out of their car with guns, blocking her escape and demanding her car. Before she even had time to comply, a relative who was standing in the yard of the home said the men got spooked and started shooting.

He said he dodged the bullets, but the gunmen shot the young woman in the arm while other slugs slammed into her car, another car nearby and the family home.

The victimized family says bullets hit multiple cars and their home when gunmen shot a woman during an attempted carjacking.

The family said another relative ended up hospitalized for emergency surgery as well. They said he tripped, fell and was badly injured when he tried to respond to the woman in trouble.

Police have said little about their search for the attackers, except they think they are 20 to 30 years old and were driving a small black sedan.

Witnesses said the car sped down Elaine Road and turned onto Belair to make their escape.

Family members and neighbors said they hope everyone who lives in the area will check surveillance cameras for video for the attack that was called in just a few minutes after 6 a.m.
