Woman dead, baby critical after crash on I-30 with off-duty officer in Dallas, deputies say

Deputies say they responded to a crash involving a Chevrolet Malibu and an off-duty police officer in a Jeep Wrangler shortly after 2:30 a.m. Saturday.

DALLAS — A woman died, and a baby is in critical condition after a crash involving an off-duty Dallas police officer early Saturday, Dallas County deputies say. 

Deputies say they responded to a stalled Chevrolet Malibu in the center lane of I-30 and 2nd Avenue shortly after 2:30 a.m. Saturday, that was hit by an off-duty police officer in a Jeep Wrangler.

The occupants of the Malibu were taken to a local hospital in critical condition, according to deputies. A pregnant woman was pronounced dead after arriving at the hospital, and the baby remains in critical condition, deputies say.

The officer was released from the hospital after a medical evaluation, according to deputies.

The roadway was reopened following the crash shortly before 6 a.m. Saturday and the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident.
