Woman grazed by bullet after fight between two families escalates, police say

According to police, it started when the mother of a woman confronted her daughter's boyfirend over alleged abuse.

SAN ANTONIO — A woman was grazed by a bullet after a fight between two families escalated over accusations of alleged abuse, police say.

This happened at an apartment complex on West Hutchins after 10:30 p.m. Wednesday near I-35 on the south side of town.

The incident led to police breaking down the door of the apartment as they looked for the shooter.

A sergeant with SAPD says a man and a woman were living together at the Rio Springs Apartments.

Police said the woman called her mom, who lives in the same complex, and told her she was being abused by her boyfriend.

The mom went to her daughter’s unit to confront the boyfriend and the argument escalated. At some point, another man in the apartment started shooting at the floor, according to officers.

Police tell us this man is not the woman’s boyfriend, but another family member involved in the confrontation.

As he was shooting, police say one of the bullets grazed the mother of the girlfriend. She was treated at the scene and released.

Officers detained the shooter early on, but the man kept telling officers he wasn’t the person who fire the shots.

That’s when officers began preparing for a barricaded subject.

Things got a bit chaotic for a moment as officers had shields and their guns drawn.

SAPD eventually broke into the apartment but didn’t find anyone inside.

SAPD says they’re condifent they have the person responsible detained.

Police are still gathering information from all involved.

This is an ongoing investigation.
