SAPD: Wrong-way driver dies at the scene after head-on collision

Police say a Chevy Malibu was driving the wrong way on I-37 South going northbound in the southbound lane. The Malibu crashed into another vehicle head-on.

SAN ANTONIO — A wrong-way driver died in an early morning accident Saturday, according to police.

At about 2:24 a.m., a Dodge Ram was driving southbound in the 500 block of I-37 South before the Houston Street exit.

Meanwhile, police say a Chevy Malibu was driving the wrong way on I-37 South going northbound in the southbound lane. The Malibu crashed into the Ram head-on.

The driver of the Ram was taken to the hospital with serious injuries but is now in stable condition. The driver of the Malibu, in his 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene. Their identity has not been positively identified at the moment. 

The crash is still under investigation.
