CLEVELAND — We have a big lottery winner as one lucky ticket just hit the massive Powerball jackpot worth $842.4 million in the drawing held on Monday, Jan. 1, 2024. Lottery officials say the winning ticket -- which is the fifth-largest prize in Powerball history -- was sold in Michigan.
"The lucky ticket holder will have the choice between an annuitized prize of $842.4 million or a lump sum payment of $425.2 million," Powerball officials explain. "Both prize options are before taxes. If the winner selects the annuity option, they will receive one immediate payment followed by 29 annual payments that increase by 5 percent each year."
Other big winners include $2 million prizes in Florida and Texas with $1 million prizes sold in California, Connecticut, Florida and Maryland.
