Made in SA: WTM Branding Irons goes back generations

Branding family traditions and memories

SAN ANTONIO — Ironmaking once just paid the bills for 79-year-old Robert Heimer, but now it's become a hobby in retirement.

"My dad started the business back in 1954 and he was listed as a blacksmith in the yellow pages," Robert Heimer said. "I was 12-15 years old when my Dad started the business and I went to work for him."

These days the art of making handcrafted branding irons is a nice retirement business for Heimer.

"It keeps me going. My feet hit the ground when I get out of the bed every day when I get out of bed that way. I got something to look forward to doing," Heimer said.
