In a letter sent to parents Friday, Northside Independent School District Officials confirmed a case of bacterial meningitis at a middle school.

The letter informed parents that a sixth grade student at Hector Garcia Middle School tested positive for the bacteria. It goes on to inform parents that it is not easily spread by casual contact like the flu or common cold. The letter also states that the bacteria is spread from person to person through the exchange of respiratory and throat secretions like coughing, kissing and sneezing.

The district advises you to seek medical attention if you think your child may have been exposed.

This is a developing story. Stay with KENS 5 for the latest details.
